Skating is Neorealist - Short

December, 2023

I wrote, shot, and edited this short film inspired by the gritty and experimental neorealist films I was watching in film class (Bicycle Thieves, Nights of Cabiria) and the skate culture (Mid90s, Spirit Quest, Video Days) I was immersed in outside of it.

My goal was to draw comparisons between the modern day skate tape and the neorealist films that arose post WWII. I also wanted to expose the soft underbelly of the college transition.

More on my stylistic choices here: ‘Skate Films as a Neorealist Form’ - A Film Accompaniment.

Antithesis of Perfection - Creative Reel

Skating, filmmaking, and life are all about the people you do it with. Using the clips from the previous film, I orchestrated ‘Antithesis of Perfection’ as an inquiry into collaboration across mediums and new forms. Paying homage to each artist’s individual style - Arlo Walker’s oozing-with-confidence sonics, and Jayden Bai’s eclectic, sugary VFX - I pulled together a creative reel that I feel is greater than the sum of its parts.

After posting it on Instagram, it gained more than 5.5k views in just 10 days.
